About the serpents

With 456 genera and over 2.900 species, snakes are a wide family of carnivorous reptiles currently living in every continent except Antartica. They can range from few centimetres to 8 metres, and they can weight up to 150 kilos.
They posses powerful coils that allows them to crawl on the ground (and, for some species, even jump from tree to tree) and fang used to kill the prey, while mobile jaws allow them to swallow preys bigger than themselves.
Although they're feared around the world for their venom, actually only a few of them can kill a grown man: snakes, contrary to popular believes, usually prefer to run off when encountering a human, and they bite only when scared: since producing venom is time consuming, the snake tends to not waste it and it's in fact used to kill and rarely they attack for self-defense.
Some non-venomous species are also kept by humans as pets, like the ball python: seems they're somehow affectionate and learn to recognize their master body by smell - but I never had such an experience, so I can't tell you more. :D

Why this fanlisting?

I'm sure I'm not the biggest snakes' fan out, I'd never have the guts to keep a python as pet and probably I'd freak out if I'd find a viper in the grass so... I was really reluctant about adding these reptiles in my wishlist. But... they really intrigue me, I cannot deny it. I love surfing for snakes images, and I squee like a fangirl when looking at cobras documentaries: I'm just here trying to jump into the screen to -ehrm- caress such tender muzzles!
When the fanlisting got removed, I didn't thought about it for a minute, and headed over the application form. ^^
I hope they got a good new home, here. :)

The title comes from my desire to summarize what snakes are in few words, and by mentioning the most known parts of a snakes (the fangs and the coils) I think I hit the spot. ^^
